The Gmei Optical 6619 is a square TR-90 frame in two finishes: solid black, or fully transparent. The clear version is the more interesting of the two — it takes the shape of a frame while barely reading as one on the face.
TR-90 is what makes a transparent frame viable. Cheaper clear plastics yellow with time and crack at the hinge; TR-90 holds its clarity, flexes under pressure and returns to shape. It is also light enough that the frame is easy to forget about, which is the point of choosing clear in the first place.
The square outline gives definition to the upper face, and in the transparent finish it does so without adding a visible line — the effect is structure without weight. In black it becomes a plain, hardwearing everyday frame. Anti-slip temple tips on both. Full rim construction, comfortable with stronger prescriptions.
