A circular rim has no straight edge to stiffen it, so at a small size the metal is doing all the work at a very fine section. Titanium handles that: rigid where it is thin, corrosion-resistant where it meets skin, half the weight of steel, and free of nickel.
Small round frames in metal are the most classically Japanese thing in eyewear — the shape has been made this way for decades and it has not needed changing. It suits angular faces, where the curve provides contrast, and narrow ones, where a standard frame would sit too wide. Four finishes.
